It’s no surprise that students from across North America are choosing Academy of Make Up Arts to advance their careers in makeup, special effects and wig design.
As you probably know, finding an apartment that will lease for less than six months can be quite challenging. At AMUA, we offer individual leases that run the length of your specific training program(s). Individual leasing allows you and your roommates to pay rent separately so you never have to worry about roommates not paying their share.
We currently have five fully-furnished student apartments. Two units are private and the other three may be shared with one other student. Private rooms are rented at $300 per week and shared rooms are rented at $200 per week. Beds are filled on a first come, first serve basis.
Other options may be apartments, sublets, roommates, or hotels.
Student Housing at 1012 Carolyn Ave.
1012 Carolyn Avenue is an historic 1933 stone cottage located in hip and artsy East Nashville, just a short drive or bus ride from downtown Nashville.
There are five apartment units within this house.
- Unit 1 is shared and is located on the ground level.
- Unit 2 is shared and is located on the ground level.
- Unit 3 is private and is located on the second floor.
- Unit 4 is private and is located on the second floor.
- Unit 5 may be shared or private and is located on the ground level.
Despite being just off busy Gallatin Avenue, our accommodations are in a quiet neighborhood, with many cute dogs to be seen out for walks in the morning and evening. East Nashville’s amazing sights are as exciting as those downtown, without parking hassles or the tourist crowd.
Carolyn House is located less than six miles from Academy of Make Up Arts and it takes about 12 minutes to drive there via I-24. Taxis, Lyft and Uber all offer reasonable rates ($6 – $9 typical to downtown).
- Apartments are located off-campus with convenient public transportation options
- Apartment buildings are co-ed and LGBT friendly
- Each apartment has a kitchen with microwave, refrigerator and toaster oven, plates, cups and silverware
- Each apartment has a bathroom with a shower
- Living areas are furnished with chairs and/or couches and a television
- Bedrooms are furnished with a bed(s), chest(s) and closet or wardrobe
- There are no washer/dryer hookups; coin laundromats are located nearby
- Students will need to provide own bed and bath items and toiletries
- Apartments include high-speed Wi-Fi internet access
- Private room requests will be evaluated based on the order in which they are received; AMUA reserves the right to determine best case scenario room assignments when necessary. Private rooms are priced at a specified higher weekly fee.

- Upon receipt of the completed Student Housing License Agreement, students will be invoiced via AMUA Student Portal. Full payment is due upon move-in unless other agreements have been made in writing.

AMUA Student Housing Policies
All room changes must be submitted to AMUA Housing Department for approval. Failure to follow the proper procedure will result in re-location of those students and possible fees.
Relocation of Students
AMUA will have the right, at its option and sole discretion, to relocate the Student to a different Unit, either in the same Complex or to another sponsored housing facility as determined by AMUA, at any time during the Term of this Agreement, either permanently or temporarily, for any reasonable purpose. Alcohol: Alcohol containers and/or the use, possession, or being under the influence of alcoholic beverages is prohibited in and around any sponsored housing facility. Knowingly being in the presence of others violating this rule is also prohibited.
Drugs, Narcotics and Drug Paraphernalia
Use, possessing or being under the influence of marijuana or any narcotic stimulant, or hallucinogenic drug in violation of state and federal law is prohibited in and around all sponsored housing facilities. Drug paraphernalia of any kind is prohibited. No exception will be made for the use of medical marijuana, regardless of whether the Resident has a medical marijuana registry card. Knowingly being in the presence of others violating this rule is also prohibited.
The public halls and stairways of the sponsored housing buildings shall not be obstructed or used for any other purpose than ingress to and egress from the Units in the sponsored housing facility, and the fire towers and fire escapes shall not be obstructed in any way. No article shall be placed in the halls or on the staircase landings, fire towers, or fire escapes, nor shall anything be hung or taken from the doors. Students may store bicycles in their Units. Bicycles may not be locked, chained or fastened in any manner to banisters or guardrails in any of the Common Areas.
A guest is defined as anyone who is not a resident of that specific Unit. All guests must be at least 18 years of age. Guest visiting hours are: 6:00AM – 12:00 AM. Residents shall be responsible and liable for the conduct of their guests and must remain with their guest at all times. No overnight guests shall be permitted unless approved at least two (2) days in advance by the Housing Director of AMUA or his/her designee, and such approval, if granted, shall only allow for two (2) consecutive nights in any thirty (30) day period. Personal Property Insurance
As with any housing rental agreement relationship, students and their parents are strongly encouraged to purchase insurance against loss or damage of personal property. AMUA is not responsible for the loss or damage of personal property in student rooms. For more information, see the housing license agreement.
Noise and Quiet Hours
No parties are permitted in sponsored housing facilities. Radios, TV sets and stereos are to be kept at a moderate level. Music and noise inside a Unit must not be heard outside a Unit. Quiet hours are: 10:00PM – 8:00 AM. For more information, see the housing license agreement.
Smoking is NOT permitted within the Units, the Common Areas, or anywhere else in the Complex. Knowingly being in the presence of others violating this rule is also prohibited.
Pets and Animals
Pets and Animals: The Resident may NOT keep pets or animals in the Unit or elsewhere in the sponsored housing facility at any time, or allow any animal or pet to visit the Student, except for assistance animals accompanying disabled individuals, provided such animal has been approved in writing by the Housing Department of AMUA. The Student in violation will be subject to disciplinary action and will be charged the cost for extermination services, cleaning and any other restoration required by AMUA and/or the owner of the Complex.

Students looking for short-term student accommodations in Nashville may want to consider extended stay hotels or furnished corporate rentals. They come equipped with a kitchen or kitchenette, beds, and everything but your personal items so you need not worry about the hassles of moving and long term apartment contracts.
